Major activities include:
Assisting (not training) technician mechanics in performing technical
activities.
Diagnoses and repairs to specifications – brake and hydraulic, exhaust, primary

Adequately explains technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical

Keeps store management aware of mechanical repair problems as they occur.
Maintains an organized and neat bay.

Requirements
Entry Level Technician
1-2 years of automotive mechanical diagnosis, problem-solving and repair
experience to succeed in this position.
A high level of motivation and energy and strong customer service skills are
also required.

Senior Mechanic / Automotive Technician
At least 2-3 years of strong automotive mechanical diagnosis, problem-solving
and repair experience.
3 ASE certifications are required for this position.
You'll also need a high level of motivation, energy and a customer-focused
attitude.

Lead Mechanic / Master Technician
5+ years of automotive mechanical diagnosis, problem- solving and repair
experience as you mentor and teach associates while discussing problems with
customers.
You will also need 5 ASE certifications, strong leadership skills and a
customer-focused attitude to go along with a high level of motivation and
energy.

AUTO/HEAVY EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN (Job #326)

Under general supervision, the selected candidate will be responsible for performing journey-level duties involving troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of automotive, heavy equipment and shop equipment including cars, trucks, vactors, cranes, hydraulic systems, electric carts, bicycles, and portable equipment. This individual will perform preventive mechanical maintenance by inspecting equipment and adjusting or replacing oil, filters, gear boxes, drive belts, brakes, air systems, exhaust systems, pressure systems, and cab equipment. Other duties include corrective maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems; repair or replacement of broken parts; overhauls; tune-ups; and performance of smog and opacity tests of gasoline and diesel engines. In addition, this person will be responsible for completing any and all paperwork related to the maintenance of the District’s automotive or heavy equipment such as work orders and logging daily work assignments.

The successful candidate will possess an educational background equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized or vocational training in the area of automotive maintenance and repair and a minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience applying preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on automotive equipment and heavy equipment. The ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing; accept and adapt to multiple changes in work assignments; read electrical diagrams; and perform arduous work including lifting up to 50 pounds is required. Basic computer skills are necessary to complete service requests, timecards, and assignments. The ability to obtain an industrial truck (forklift) certificate within six months from the hire date is highly desired. ASE certification is preferred. A valid class B California driver’s license is required. Class A California driver’s license is preferred.

AUTO/HEAVY EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN SALARY RANGE: $24.96/hr. - $27.29hr.
